A Snapshot is a collection of the network device's running configuration and state table files at a specific point in time. The Forward Collector logs in to the network devices, gather configuration and network state information, create a network topology, and run algorithms to calculate every possible traffic path in the network. A custom snapshot performs a collection on a subset of your network.
Why take a custom snapshot?
- To upload a snapshot to support that includes a subset of devices
- To capture a pre change snapshot of devices associated with a path search
- To export a specific snapshot to import into a separate workspace outside of the primary workspace.
- Perform your intended path search using your specific parameters.’
- From the search results, you can see off to the right a copy icon. This allows you to copy path search syntax. It also allows you to export your existing path search to snapshot.
- To do what is described in step two, hold down the “CTRL” key (for MAC use the “option”. This should change the copy path search icon and present a download option.
- This should bring up the “Export Snapshot” creation window. As you can see, it will automatically grab the devices associated with the original path search. You can review this list and make adjustments after clicking Next.
- After clicking next as explained in the prior step, you can add additional devices here that you would like to add to the original list of devices associated with the original path search. Click Next to continue and finalize the Export.
- Once you finalize the export you can import the snapshot into an existing / new workspace or share it with Forward Support.
